Rob Jones is a man on a mission: to ascend to the peaks of professional automobile racing.
No stranger to motorsports, Rob dreamed from a young age about becoming a professional race car driver. Just as few worthwhile dreams come equipped with a "short path", Rob made a few rewarding stops along the way. The first was at Delaware State University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aircraft Systems Management. The aspiring driver then took his thirst for speed to a higher level, entering training with the Maryland Air National Guard to pilot fighter jets. Rob completed initial flight training and was assigned to the hard-hitting A-10 Thunderbolt ('Warthog'), the Air Force's premier close air support fighter, heavily armored, and built specifically for low-flying ground attack missions. His service to the country's defense also brought a few unique rewards as Rob has had the honor of performing pre-event flyovers for both NASCAR and the NFL. In addition, his cockpit experience led Rob to his current line of work: flying MD-11 jumbo jets worldwide for UPS.
Throughout Rob's journey, a strong yearning to race kept nudging him back on the path toward realizing his childhood dreams. After years of listening to him complain that he could be a race car driver, Kanisha, Rob's loving and patient wife, urged him to make the dream a reality. He satisfied his first taste of racing when he attended Mike Loescher's world-famous FinishLine Racing School. Then, after a season racing Legends cars in Virginia, Rob became a volunteer driving instructor for Try It Racing at Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas, Virginia. After a volunteer stint with Andy Hillenburg's Fast Track High Performance Driving School, ARCA's official racing school, it was on to competition in the 2007 ARCA Truck Series where Rob drove 12 races for team owner Frank Wilson, current Chairman of the Board for the ARCA Truck Series.
In 2008 and 2009, Rob satisfied his craving for on-track competition by running partial schedules in the Super Cup Stock Car Series. Competing in just two-thirds of the scheduled events each season, Rob racked up several consecutive top-10 finishes, picked up a Hard Charger award, and further demonstrated his natural talent by finishing 6th in the 2008 season and 9th in 2009.
Recognizing a need to push his dream to the next level, in 2010 Rob makes the move to the ARCA Racing Series, presented by RE/MAX and Menards, a series known for producing NASCAR's stars of tomorrow. Rob's full-time, midseason signing with Hixson Motorsports, based in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, pairs his remarkable racing aptitude with a multi-car team that brings to the table their rich tradition of successful competition in the ARCA series for over a decade.
